On Monday I activated one of the two small non-pier sections of the Sunshine Skyway Fishing Pier State Park. I operated from my car as there was no mains power.
In reality, I should have heeded the warning of the SWPC forecast that HF radio conditions would be poor.
The solar flux was low and the max Kp for the day was 5 (G1). I went anyway. In the beginning, the ionosphere was mostly cooperative; I logged 36 contacts in the first hour. It took more than 2 hours to get the remaining 8 (to reach the minimum WWFF Activation threshold of 44) and the final 4 contacts took 90 minutes.
All in all, the day was a success, and I worked 3 new countries: Northern Ireland, Haiti and Jamaica.
Next activation in a few weeks!
Solar data for activation: SFI 75 / SN 0 / Ap 4 / Max Kp 2
